CHALLENGES
Embarking on the Smithfield Schools project, we at Gili Services faced several challenges. The foremost among these was the demolition process, which required a thorough survey of the site to identify potential hazards and create a safe work plan.
The process of securing necessary licences for the demolition work was another hurdle. These licences were crucial to ensure adherence to strict safety standards during the dismantling of structures and elements related to the physical integrity of the buildings.
After the demolition was completed, responsibly disposing of materials to minimise environmental impact was a significant task. It involved not only physical labour but also careful coordination to ensure proper waste management procedures were followed.
The new construction phase brought its own set of challenges. It was essential for us to adhere to specific design standards for educational facilities, requiring detailed planning and design. Any changes or deviations during this phase had to be approved in writing, adding an extra layer of complexity.
The task of constructing joinery units, an integral part of the school buildings' interiors, demanded meticulous material selection, fabrication, and installation. Striking a balance between functionality and aesthetics while ensuring durability was a demanding task.
In conclusion, the Smithfield Schools project was a complex endeavour that tested our expertise at every stage, from demolition to construction. Despite these challenges, we strove to deliver a quality outcome that met all safety and design standards.
